Greenhouse Bases

Elite greenhouses, with the exception of the GX and Thyme range, require a base of some description whether it be timber, aluminium or brick so as to allow the doors to slide in the overhanging bottom rack.

All Lean-To greenhouses need a base of some kind.

The aluminium base is an integral part of the framework and is a standard feature on the Compact, Streamline, Craftsman, High Eave and Belmont.

As standard, the doors are dropped into Elites aluminium base providing a ground level threshold allowing easy access to the user.

For extra stability and strength, and the larger models recommend building a brick base. A solid engineering should always be used, however, please note that the number of bricks used in the base height will result in a step-over into the greenhouse. Overlapping cills demonstrate a need for accuracy when building a brick base Elite offer a separate 5 inch aluminium base on all the Lean-Tos an optional extra. The aluminium base is versatile in the it has the ability to go directly onto the soil or grass and can be adapted to any solid foundation, such as concrete or slabs.

The majority of greenhouses are constructed on the solid foundation server is what, however if your greenhouse is being constructed to soil will bias, you must inform us so that we can order a special plinth for you

Elite offer a separate 5in aluminium base as an optional extra to 14ft long.

Doors can also be dropped into brickwork or aluminium base to allow wheelchair and wheelbarrow access.

The Lean-To base does not have a ground level threshold as standard, however, the doors can be dropped into the aluminium base or brickwork to achieve this.

BUILT-IN BASE

The base is an integral part of the framework and a built in base up to 8' long is a standard feature on the Compact and Streamline models and as an additional option up to the same length on the Craftsman and High Eave.

If your desired size is an 8’ x 6’ Craftsman or High Eave, it is always better to opt for the built in base option as it is supplied with 2 roof vents as standard compared to just one when you opt for the separate base.

BUILT-IN BASE
SEPARATE BASE

Elite offer a separate 5" tall aluminium base on all the other models. Aluminium is provided as it will not discolour or rust and can also be powder coated to suit your greenhouse unlike other base materials. Opting for an aluminium base not only eliminates the need for the traditional brick base but also allows you to sit the greenhouse straight onto any solid foundation, soil or grass.

VERSATILE BASE

The aluminium base is versatile in that it has the ability to go directly onto soil or grass and can be adapted for any solid foundation, such as concrete or slabs. If you are preparing a "platform" for your greenhouse, remember to build the platform slightly bigger than the greenhouse size, as this gauge is only nominal and the product is actually a few inches bigger, therefore, please refer to the exact sizes at the back of the brochure.

BRICK BASE

For extra stability and strength on the larger models we recommend building a brick base. A solid engineering brick, as in one without holes, should always be used however, please note that the number of bricks used in the base height will result in a higher step-over into the greenhouse.

We reiterate that on any of the models the greenhouse will be bigger than its nominal size therefore please refer to the back of the brochure for exact base measurements.

Overlapping cills demonstrate a need for accuracy when building a brick base.

DWARF WALL

If you are considering purchasing a Dwarf Wall model, a base plan will be supplied by Elite once the order is confirmed and, if you select the brick base option, please remember that a separate aluminium base is not required. A solid engineering brick, as in one without holes, should always be used.
